Suspension vs. Locked vs. Deactivated

Before appealing, confirm what actually happened to your account. A suspension is imposed by Twitter and often has an appeal path. A locked account means Twitter wants you to verify identity (usually via phone). A deactivated account is one you closed yourself — it can be reactivated within 30 days.

Step 1: Identify the Suspension Type

1. Log in and read the exact message. Twitter shows whether the suspension is temporary (usually 12–24 hours for first violations) or permanent.
2. Temporary suspensions for spam-like behavior expire automatically — no appeal needed.
3. Permanent suspensions require a formal appeal through the Help Center.

Step 2: Fix a Locked Account First

1. If Twitter asks you to verify a phone number and you no longer have access to that number, click I don’t have access to this phone number.
2. Twitter will walk you through alternative verification — usually email-based.
3. Once unlocked, enable two-factor authentication to prevent future lockouts.

Step 3: Submit an Appeal for a Permanent Suspension

1. Go to help.twitter.com/forms/general or click the Learn more link on the suspension notice.
2. Select I want to appeal a suspension and fill out the form completely.
3. In the description field, be specific: state that you believe the suspension was made in error, reference the specific rule you are alleged to have violated, and explain why your account was not in violation.
4. Submit and wait — initial responses typically arrive within 3–7 days.

Step 4: Escalate via Email

1. If the appeal form gets no response after 7 days, email support@twitter.com with your appeal ID in the subject line.
2. Keep the tone professional and factual. Emotional appeals rarely succeed; factual corrections do.
3. You can also try appealing via the Twitter Help Center on a different device or browser — sometimes the form submission fails silently.

Step 5: Appeal Via the Mobile App

1. Open the Twitter/X app on mobile → tap Start your appeal on the suspension screen.
2. The in-app appeal form sometimes reaches a different review queue than the web form and may be processed faster.
