Hulu Keeps Buffering — Complete Fix Guide
Why Hulu Buffers Constantly
Hulu does not pre-buffer as aggressively as Netflix, so even small network hiccups are visible as repeated pauses.
Fix 1: Lower the Playback Quality
During playback, click the gear icon → Quality → Select 720p instead of Auto. Auto mode sometimes selects 4K on connections that cannot sustain it.
Fix 2: Restart Your Router
Unplug for 30 seconds and reconnect. A router running for weeks without restart accumulates stale connections that degrade streaming.
Fix 3: Close Background Apps
On smart TVs and streaming sticks, background apps consume RAM and bandwidth. Close all other apps before opening Hulu.
Fix 4: Check Hulu’s Required Speed
Hulu requires: 3 Mbps for on-demand, 8 Mbps for Live TV, 16 Mbps for 4K. Run a speed test at fast.com.
Fix 5: Change DNS to 1.1.1.1
Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 typically resolves to closer CDN nodes, reducing latency-induced buffering.
Fix 6: Reinstall Hulu
Delete and reinstall the app. Corrupted cached video segments can cause continuous rebuffering at the same point in a video.
