Disney+ Error Code 39 — Fix It in Minutes

What Is Disney+ Error Code 39?

A DRM / HDCP failure. Disney+ cannot verify the video signal path to your screen is secure — usually because of an unauthorized HDMI splitter or capture card.

Fix 1: Remove HDMI Splitters and Switches

Connect your streaming device directly to the TV, removing any splitter, AV receiver, or capture device in between. Disney+ enforces HDCP 2.2 — non-compliant devices in the chain trigger error 39.

Fix 2: Switch the HDMI Port

Try a different HDMI port on your TV. Ports labeled “HDMI 2.0” or “4K” are more likely to be fully HDCP 2.2 compliant.

Fix 3: Use a Different Device

Try watching on a laptop browser (disneyplus.com) or your phone. If it works there, the issue is hardware-specific to the original device.

Fix 4: Reinstall the Disney+ App

Delete the app completely and reinstall from scratch. This clears DRM license caches that can get corrupted over time.

Fix 5: Update Your Device Firmware

Smart TVs, Roku, and Fire Sticks receive firmware updates that include DRM library patches. Update and restart before retrying.
