Spotify Songs Greyed Out — Why and How to Fix

0

Why Are Spotify Songs Greyed Out?

Two categories: licensing removals (Spotify lost the rights in your region) and local file issues (your device cannot find a manually added file).

Fix 1: Check if the Song Is Available in Your Country

Open Spotify in a browser at open.spotify.com and search for the song. If greyed out there too, the track is not licensed for your region — no user-side fix exists.

Fix 2: Fix Local Files

If the track has a file icon: Settings → Local Files → Verify the folder path is still correct. Re-add the folder if it has changed location.

Fix 3: Change Your Country Setting

Account → Edit Profile → Country. Spotify uses this for licensing. Requires a payment method in the new country.

Fix 4: Clear Cache and Restart

Settings → Storage → Delete Cache. A corrupt metadata cache can incorrectly mark available songs as unplayable.

Fix 5: Log Out of All Devices

Account page → Sign Out Everywhere. Then log back in on your primary device. This refreshes licensing tokens.
