Coinbase “Something Went Wrong” — All Fixes
Why Coinbase Shows Generic Errors
Coinbase uses generic messages (“Something went wrong”) for several different underlying problems. The fix depends on what you were doing when the error appeared.
Fix for Login Errors
Clear browser cookies for coinbase.com, or try a different browser. Also verify your 2FA app is showing the correct code — a time-skewed device causes 2FA failures that look like generic errors.
Fix for Buy/Sell Errors
Check if your bank has flagged the transaction. Many banks block crypto purchases by default — call your bank to authorize the transaction type. Also verify your Coinbase account is fully verified (ID + selfie).
Fix for Transfer Errors
Confirm the recipient address is correct and on the right network. Sending ETH to an ETH address on the wrong chain (e.g., BSC) will fail with a generic error.
Fix for General App Errors
Update the Coinbase app. Delete and reinstall if updating does not help. App errors are frequently caused by cached stale API responses.
Check Coinbase Status
Visit status.coinbase.com. Coinbase has had multiple partial outages that generated generic errors for millions of users simultaneously.
