Microsoft Teams Microphone Not Working
Two Types of Teams Mic Failures
Type 1: Mic not detected — Teams shows no microphone option or you cannot unmute. Type 2: Mic detected but others cannot hear you.
Fix for Type 1: Mic Not Detected
Settings → Privacy → Microphone → Enable access for Microsoft Teams. Then in Teams: Profile → Settings → Devices → Check the microphone dropdown.
Fix for Type 2: Mic Detected But No Audio
The most common cause is incorrect input device selection. Windows Sound Settings → Input → Make sure the correct microphone is set as default.
Fix 3: Use Teams Audio Test
Teams → Settings → Devices → “Make a test call.” This calls a bot and plays back your recording, confirming exactly where the audio chain breaks.
Fix 4: Disable Exclusive Mode
Right-click Sound icon → Sound Settings → Input device → Device Properties → Additional device properties → Advanced → Uncheck “Allow applications to take exclusive control.”
Fix 5: Clear Teams Cache
Quit Teams → Press Win+R → type %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams → Delete all files in the Cache folder → Restart Teams.
